It would take a long, long time to list all the benefits that pets provide to their owners. The family dog can be an energetic playmate, loyal companion and fierce guardian – all in the same day. More and more families are bringing pets into their homes each year. The dog population in Illinois has now grown to more than 2.5 million at last count.

Unfortunately, not all dog owners are responsible. All too often dogs are poorly trained, ignored and sometimes abused. Consequently those pets can pose a very real danger to the general public – particularly children.
